Restaurants in Fitchburg or Leominster, MA

I'm new to this area and when friends visit would like to take them to a really good, median-priced restaurant in this area. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  1. Although it's been a while since I lived there, Slattery's is a good, local pub eatery. Drive to Ashburnham to the Golden Pineapple for a special meal. Also of note, 20-30 minute drive to Boylston for a great Irish Pub, O'Connor's. Continue on to Worcester for one of the most successful seafood restaurants in New England, The Sole Proprietor. The kettle meals at the bar are some of the best deals around plus they serve until 2 a.m.!

    1. For a special meal, try "Victorian House" in Ashburnham. They do not advertise except by word of mouth, and are located in a wonderfully restored Victorian home off the center of Ashburnham. They are listed, however, if you call "411" Information. The food is mainly French, entrees will run in the $18 - $30 range. You will not find a better restaurant in this area of Massachusetts. (I also agree with the reply recommending "The Golden Pineapple"; it's very good as well, but less expensive and has a more casual atmosphere. It's actually in Winchendon, however, not Ashburnham.) There are also two good Italian restaurants, one in Fitchburg and one in downtown Leominster, the names unfortunately escape me now as we only go up there in the summertime, but I will post again if I think of them. Good luck!

Winchendon..>Right! It's been awhile. I forgot about the Victorian House. Highly recommended by everyone although have never been personally.

      2. I used to live near there before moving to NYC. Actually I lived in southern NH. A very good Italian restaurant in Fitchburg is Al Forno. Do not be put off by the shopping center it is in. the food is fresh, homemade, and very good. Their gnocchi are the best I've had anywhere. Not high on atmosphere but beats the lackluster other choices in town. There is a decent seafood thai but nothing outstanding. Not many restaurnats to write home about. Sandy

Sandy - thanks for reminding me, AL Forno is the name of the great Italian place - couldn't remember it! Do you know the name of the one in Leominster? The dining room is upstairs and take out is downstairs. It's been there for years downtown.

            Is it Monte's Maybe???

That's it! Thanks, Food Maven. We're planning to go up there this weekend, and hopefully will get to Monte's one night. On New Year's Eve we are booked at Victorian House, can't wait!
