Went to Lumiere Wednesday night for dinner. The owners are Jill and Michael Leviton with Jill in the front and Michael in the back. It is located at 1293 Washington Street-West Newton 617 244-9199. Although they have just celebrated their one year anniversary
you need to call well in advance for a reservation.
The menu is French influenced with straightforward presentation. I had a Salt Cod and Potato Cake appetizer. It was served on Roasted Tomatoes, Toasted Garlic, Olives and Capers. The two generous size cakes were nicely browned and had good texture but they lacked flavor. I think more of the Salt Cod would have solved the problem. For my main course I chose the "Braised Leg of Lamb". I have often seen braised "lamb shanks" but never a leg. The lamb was surrounded by a "Parsnip Puree" and a combination of Potatoes, Carrots, Turnip and Parsnip. The Braising liquid was very rich and flavorful. The vegetables we done just right and the puree had a great consistency and taste. The Lamb itself was very moist and fork tender but again not much flavor. I finished with a "Melted Chocolate Cake with Citrus Garnish".
I don't want my "no flavor" comments to be misleading. I would certainly return and encourage others to do so. Remember to allow plenty of lead time to make your reservation.
