Would appreciate ANY info on any restaurants or supermarkets -- ANYWHERE (but especially Boston) -- for any Balinese, Okinawan, or Chejuan food....
(NOTE: I posted this to the NY board, before I knew there WAS a Boston board. I apologize in advance if this double posting is a no-no.)
Out of curiosity -- what is this about? -the vocabulary? Mea culpa? Some of us hear legends about the other Chowhound's boards but the Boston one has been temperamentally OK - though certainly a lot less prolific than others. I, for example, do not read the Manhattan or other NY boards.
Boston has a significant number of Tibetan immigrants - for example -- so there are restaurants and markets to serve them. There are about zero Swedish immigrants so there are no Swedish restaurants and food stores. There are numerous Polish immigrants but no specifically Polish restaurants I know of (there is a Polish deli in Dorchester). I know of no restaurants representing specifically Bali, Okinawa or several other Asian peoples. We do have Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Malaysian, Thai, Philippine, Australian, the coastal Chinese, Indonesian - perhaps other list members know of other examples.
Some of the large, new Asian markets like the Super 88 may have foodstuffs relating to Bali, Okinawa and other Asian cuisines so one could make these cuisines oneself. This is what I do to satisfy my urges for Swedish food -get the ingredients and make it myself. As has been pointed out, occasionally a well known restaurant will feature a few ethnic dishes. Its up to the list members to report these occasions to the list so anyone interested can partake. We can help one another.
