We are going to fly to Knoxville in mid -October and work our way west to Memphis hitting a few major and some minor towns. I know there must be hundereds of "Southern Cooking" joints. Which are the best for BBQ and general good eating. Which should be avoided?

There's a place just south of Nashville off I-65 called Stan's (Country Kitchen I think) that's really good. My wife and I have eaten there a few times. Great breakfast. Down home southern like mama makes.

If you can swing it. Stop by the Jack Daniels distillery on Friday or Saturday. They have a BBQ on top of a hill overlooking the hollow. It's fantastic. $20/head. Not sure if they'll still be doing it in October but well worth looking into.
