I'm sure it's fine, but as it's right across the street from Ruth's Chris and about a mile from Folk's Folly it's in for an uphill battle.

That said, I've never really been into big buttery melty steakhouses. At least not when I was footing the bill, as I can feed a whole house full of guests for the price of two steaks at most of those places and seem gracious and entertaining at the same time.

Now, if someone has actual helpful advice...

I just went the other day. I don't think it's as good as either Folk's Folly or Ruth's Chris. The steaks and sides aren't as good, the drinks aren't as big, and the wine list isn't remotely in Folk's Folly's league (and worse than Ruth's Chris). Service was good, in the Folk's "motherly" style.

I couldn't really see a reason to go back.

I agree 100%. I was force marched into Flemings last week for a corporate dinner and was not impressed. In all fairness, I must admit I am NO FAN of Outback Steakhouse, Flemings parent company so I went in with a negative bias.
We were seated in a private room which upon arrival was about 90 degrees. We actually had to open an emergency exit door and prop it open with a chair for relief. Not a good start.
We had a limited menu, ribeyes or veal chops. My veal chop was good but overcooked. I think the waiter actually gave me my neighbor's medium, but I can't say for sure. The ribeyes were tough, according to my tablemates. The crab cakes (our only app. option) were "fishy". We were served a iceberg wedge salad w/ blue cheese which was fine IF you like iceberg wedges as big as your head.
Our deserts were some kind of choc. pecan pie, heavy but tasty.
I much prefer Folk's Folly.

I have not been to Fleming's so I can't speak to its merits. Out of the four you listed, I would go with Jarrett's or Erling Jensen's. Along the lines of what Randal said, if I'm going to spend that much on a great dinner, I want it to be for the cooking and all of the other intangibles that a great chef adds ... not just for a good piece of meat.

Erling does a great job with game and seafood. Wally Joe is another excellent choice, but I would personally pick Erling. You probably can't miss with either.

Another thought for Memphis fine dining is the new Inn at Hunt Phelan. I have not had a chance to go there (and I don't think I've seen any reports here) yet. It's in a beautiful historic house near downtown.

We just ate at the Inn at Hunt Phelan and had an exceptional meal. There is so much history there. Four different Presidents have actually stayed at the Inn. You can dine in the mansion or in the open bar area. I would definitely recommend it. I hear Sunday Brunch is a real winner there too. The grounds are beautiful. Oh, and it is a bread and breakfast. It is a little further down on Beale St by Danny Thomas Pkwy.
