To: Delelchef and others
I am planning on taking my wife to dinner for our anniversary and I picked Vin Rouge since it is one of the few Triangle places that we have not been to. After viewing the Vin Rouge menu, I was wondering if there are usually more specials and selections to choose from and what have people enjoyed the most when they have dined there? Also is there a seating preference to ask for? Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

There are daily specials. If you like liver, I highly recommend the liver and onions. Everything we've had at Vin Rouge has been at least good. The restaurant's weakest point is probably the desserts: good but not spectacular, which is a bummer, since bistro-style desserts are potentially so wonderful.

My wife and I enjoyed an excellent meal at vin rouge. The Steak frites was very good and so was my wife's boulibaisse. The only caution to anyone would be to sit in the dining area away from the bar or outside. The somke in the bar area dining from the kitchen was
overwhelming , maybe the vent was not working. Otherwise a very nice meal.

Had the steak frites the other night - not bad, the fries were good bistro style. A companion had the pork chop, which looked pretty good.

Don't know about all the desserts, but the chocolate torte was really good - of course I've been on South Beach for a couple of months, so I was really jonesin for sugar!

I've had the steak (they use NY strip) frites as well and, trust me, you won't go hungry, that's for sure. My wife had the beef bourgenon (sic), which she really enjoyed. Her appatizer, oysters au gratin, was a decandently rich item and a very good value. I'd pass on the desserts though (we shared a lemon tart). Instead, stroll down to Magnolia Grill and see if you can grab a corner table or even sit at the bar and see what Karen Barker has cookin'. We went there last night for coffee and dessert as a matter of fact. My choice, a brownie with banana slices, chocolate ice cream and caramel sauce was okay. My wife's crepes with warmed goat cheese with caramelized figs was amazing! It was one of the best desserts in memory.
