Southport NC

Looking for recommendations for good grub in/around Southport. Did a search but the only rec I found was for the Yacht Provision Company.

Other suggestions?

Live Oak is great for a nice quality dinner. Taylors is excellent, and the price is right. http://www.taylorcuisinecatering.com/

Pretty much what everbody has said is true. Provision Co. is nothing really special 'cept the locale/view. Peel & eat shrimp, NOT lump crab cakes, etc. Blue Water Point is pretty good, but can be pricey! Live Oak was also okay, but pricey. Fishy Fishy is always dependable, but again not special. A fairly new place on Fish Factory Rd., Dead End Saloon is good w/water way view, limited menu w/super burgers. Famous Subs, as mentioned in other posts, is good for subs & fried chicken, relatively cheap. Best food in the area is Mr. P's. Pricely, but really good. Another local fav is PJ's, diner type place w/daily specials at very affordable prices. Surfer's, close to Wal-Mart is okay for fried fish. If you like Asian, Thai Peppers is one of the more reasonable places and good food. Pharmacy is good but very pricey.
Problem in the Southport area is that the very few really good eateries are overpriced! Selection is very small; you can predict the menu of 95%of the places; fried seafood.

A suggestion for Southport fine dining is Live Oak Cafe. In an old bungalow style house. Creative, quality food. We had a fantastic dinner there, even by metropolitan standards. I agree, Fish House at Blue Water Point Marina is a good pick. Fantastic view. If you have to wait for a table (it's not big) the time goes quickly becuase you can look at boats, the sunset, fishermen, etc. They give you tons of food, so beware! I have never been able to eat even half of what they served up. We like the buffalo shrimp appetizer... a huge plate (share one). We also ate at the new steak house on the Southport waterfront, next to Yacht Provision. Great steaks, great view, but expensive. $20 entre, everything a la carte.
A lot of locals eat at the Famous Restaurant. This is a greek/italian/fried chicken diner-type place on the road going into Southport, near Hardees. Not fancy but tasty cheap food. Duffers at the OI Country Club has an unbelieveable ocean view and the food is good, if you are willing to sit in a golf club bar to eat. My husband had a perfect piece of grilled wahoo fish there. Yacht Provision -- IMO is just OK. Yes, it's on the water, and has mucho charisma, but it's outdoors, always crowded, and the plastic tables & chairs are sticky. Food is served with disposable plates & utensils. It seems dirty. But I must admit that the food is good, and price is right.

Try Blue Point Marina at the west end of Oak Island. Best Restaurant around Southport.
