Raleigh tonight! Suggestion needed
I'm a Philly 'hound completely out of the dining scene south of DC (I should know better!).
My boss jsut called me a few moments ago -- I'm in charge of finding him a restaurant for dinner this evening.
Requirements:
Party of 2
-Moderate to mildly expensive (he's the CFO at the office)
-"has character"
-He will be driving from Roanoke to the airport, so convenience to a highway/main route is good. He's used to city driving, and wouldn't have a problem driving downtown if it's not incredibly far out of the way.
-any cuisine

I've been looking at the Citysearch site, and I think something along the lines of (but necessarily) Magnolia Grill or Restaurant Starlu would work.

FWIW, neither of the places you mention are in Raleigh. That said, If he's driving from Roanoke to the Airport, he wont actually go through Raleigh anyway. Assuming he's coming in on Hwy 40, he'll actually be going right through Chapel Hill. Elaine's, Lantern, and Talulah's are all pretty fun. Talulah being Turkish, Lantern- Asian, and Elaine's new southern.
Starlu is actually not far off that route, but I've really heard mixed reviews on it. Just down the road from that is Nana's which is a much safer bet.
Magnolia Grill is certainly a Durham fixture and you'd have a hard time going wrong there.

Hi-
Please don't respond to a posting by changing the subject, please put your narrative comments in the Message field. When you change the subject it makes it difficult for Chowhounds who use our Hotposts feature to follow the thread, and it will not help anyone using a text search tool to find your posting about the original subject.
If the actual subject of conversation does materially change, then it is OK to change the subject, or append to it, as we did above.
Thanks.
