Shortys Famous Hot Dogs
in Wake Forest NC...anyone been there? Ive driven thru there for years and am allways on the look out for a road food place ate at the cuban restaurant there but never heard of this one..started in 1916..this is one on me........
Have been there many times. Place is mentioned in the newest Southern Living in a piece about Wake Forest.
The hot dogs are some of the best you will ever find. Place is small & you will leave wearing many odors from inside. Well worth a visit; we usually stop in once or twice a month. The hot dogs are the "red" colored ones, not the "brown" color many people prefer. I believe they are purchased from Carolina Packers in Smithfield, NC (but they may be from somewhere else) since that is their brand/style of hotdog. The chili is great too. The place is an institution in Wake Forest; family run ever since it's been open. Again, worth your time to go eat, especially if you need a good hot dog fix.
Another place with good hot dogs is Short's Grill in Selma, NC. Very similar to Shorty's (no relation) but a good dog as well.

My grandfather ate lunch at Shorty's every day because he owned a business across the street. It used to be that nice ladies would not go in there because it was a poll hall. On top of fabulous hot dogs, the meatloaf burgers are excellent. Can't beleieve peopleare discussing this on chow hound!
