My boss & I will be in Atlanta in mid-November attending a workshop/seminar and will have a car. We'll be there for 2 dinners. I'm in charge of selecting the restaurants and have narrowed my choices to the following:

Pura Vida Tapas
Woodfire Grill
Watershed
South City Kitchen
Swallow at the Hollow

I know they stretch the gambit in terms of food type & ambiance. We're from the NYC metro area and prefer something a little different than what we can get here. Maybe you have another suggestion.

Thanks for your help!

Watershed would definitely be one of my choices because the chef, Scott Peacock, is very influenced by all things southern (including Edna Lewis).

Be thankful you have a car! It will make a huge difference.

Can't speak to whether or not the others would be something you couldn't easily get at home.

I also think Watershed is a good choice, and if you're staying downtown or in Midtown, you'll have a lovely drive (through Druid Hills-Miss Daisy's neighborhood) getting there. If you want a real taste of Atlanta, you should consider The Varsity and Mary Mac's for your lunches.

Swallow at the Hollow is definitely different than anything I have ever seen in Manhattan. The ribs are excellent, the sides superb, the pork very good. The portabella sandwiches have quite a following, but I have never been tempted. The ambiance is (to my thinking) a bit hokey. Service has always been very good. High class this is not. This is a sports shirt and jeans kind of environment. Just the same, it is southern and it is good. Live music on weekends makes it difficult to get a table on Friday or Saturday unless you arrive quite early.
