Can anyone comment on the dining at Blackberry Farm. When I called to ask them about the gourmet picnic lunch that they pack for you -- it was described as a "box lunch" with a sandwich, some sort of starchy salad, " a bag of chips", and a dessert. Considering the steep bill of fare, I found this somewhat disconcerting. It makes me question the dinner and breakfast as well.

I am considering this as a special destination for my mother and my aunt, who are both Swiss and have a low tolerance for anything mediocre.

thanks for any insight anyone might have.

My wife and I spent 3 days and nights at the Blackberry Farm this July. We had an wonderful time, very relaxing but found enough to do to keep from getting bored. The place is beautiful and the staff exemplary. The food is generally excellent, particularly for fans of local Southern ingredients. That said, the box lunches are weaker than breakfast or lunch, but those other 2 meals more than offset the lunches.

I used to cook at Blackberry Farm and was fortunate enough to stay there a couple of times. I find it to be one of the most relaxing places in the world to stay; I have tackled quite a few relais and chateaux's around the world as well. The "box lunch" is quite good and it is tailored to enable quests to not have to plan their day around lunch. Allowing you to do whatever, whenever and take your lunch with you if you desire.

The food at Blackberry Farm (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) is just out-of-this-world. There should be no concern about the box lunches. They put together some of the most creative picnic box lunches I've ever had. I've stayed there about 5 times and have great memories of enjoying the picnics. There's always a protein or sandwich. I had the best smoked trout sandwich, with toppings that I'm not sure what they were, but the flavors, oh, the flavors. I've had a chicken dish that was just beyond compare. There's always a starch of some sort - often a really nice grain type salad, such as wheatberries, barley, etc with vegetables and nice dressing. There's always a dessert, which can be a tart or really good type bar (always of great size). These are really gourmet picnics. Oh, and I didn't mention that they offer a vegetarian option. My husband and I usually get one regular lunch and one vegetarian because there's just so much food. Now, my description of dinner could go on and on. Needless to say, they've been featured in every major cooking and travel magazine. And there is a reason why. This place is almost perfect.
