i'm off to spend a week in clemson and have been told that most of my meals will be provided at the university cafeteria (gulp!!) so i'm looking for other ideas, i am an omivore that's willing to experiment so i'm really open to anything well prepared. i will have transportation.

anything of interest between clemson and atlanta? i'll be driving the blue highways and am in no rush.

thanks

Hot dog joint just behinf the Ramada Inn (Skin Thrasher's?) in a strip mall is really good. Also don't miss getting some Clemson Blue Cheese made by the Ag dept. The blue cheese dressing is to die for.

My understanding is that Clemson Blue cheese is now made in a commercial kitchen for them by Aramark. It is still sold in the creamery. But, its not what it once was.

last time i was there, the biggest recommendation was for a place that had alaskan salmon....

everyone on the bbq list is silent on clemson.

Skin Thrasher's is the name of the hot dog joint. Listed by numerous magazines as one of the top ten in the country.

Come on now we are talking about Clemson. The directions to the palce are south until you smell it and north until you step in it.

Decent food? have to go to Greenville or Atlanta (good weekend get away)

On the way to Clemson, you might want to stop at Hart's BBQ in Commerce, GA. (407 S Elm St. - it's not far from I-85)

I haven't been there in quite a few years but have had good experiences in the past.

Joe:

I don't know Clemson well except to tell you that its a small college town in a very rural area. The recommendation of Skin Thrashers for Hot Dogs is one that I have heard plenty of times. There is also a local burger joint called Mac's Drive In where locals swear by the chili cheeseburger. That's about all of the hope that I can give you outside of fast food.

If you have access to a car during your visit, I recommend the short drive north to Greenville to visit Henry's Smokehouse for barbeque. It's located on Wade Hampton Boulevard near the BiLo Center.

I live in anderson, sc. About 15 minutes from clemson. Skin's hot dogs originated here, but is closed on mondays and sundays. Also there is a restaurant downtown here in anderson called Sullivans metropolitan grill. They have excellent food as well as an upscale atmosphere. Try'em out and I hope your stay in this area is enjoyable!!

There is Saddlers Creek BBQ on the outskirts of town (near lake Hartwell) as well as Creekside BBQ here in town. Both are decent, but I grew up in Orangeburg, SC so I am used to Duke's, Sweatman's, Laird's etc. The places in Anderson do not compare to me.
