Stella is not the place to go - it's not reasonably priced and the one time I ate there, it was terrible... my first choice would be Encore - it's fantastic... run by the former chef at Chez Phillipe..beautiful dining room.. great food and service... in Peabody Place which is an easy walk from Beale Street - it's a winner!
I would also recommend McEwen's. It is reasonably priced and has good food. Though it's not particularly romantic, it's a nice restaurant..you could walk there. Cielo would also be great - awesome setting and food - just a little on the expensive side.›4 Replies-
re: prainer
Cielo is no more. The owner, Karen Carrier, redesigned it. Now it's a tapas place called the Molly Fontaine Lounge. I think Grill 83 would be a good choice. I haven't been, but I've heard good things. Encore woudl also be my first choice. Encore is reasonably priced, delicious, and the service is always good. Great ambience! Their website is http://www.encore-memphis.com/.

There's a Hampton on Shady Grove near I 240 and Poplar that's close to Erling Jensen's Restaurant, which is as nice a place you will ever find in Memphis....nothing near Beale but Chez Phillipe which is very expensive................Thinking back there's a nice restaurant in The Madison Hotel and another one that a lady opened on Monroe called Felicia Suzanne's which I hear is nice..........90l 523 0877........if you like it let us know............

re: Ike!
The closest nice restaurants are going to be in the Peabody Hotel, which is on the next block over from the downtown Hampton.
A few more blocks away (but still within reasonable walking distance) are Stella, McEwen's and Felicia Suzanne's. Felicia Suzanne's doesn't have a Web site anymore, but Stella's is www.stellamemphis.com and McEwen's is www.mcewensonmonroe.com. Unfortunately, I haven't been to any of these but my sources say McEwen's is the most relaxing, tastiest of the three.
My recommendation would be to go just a little farther - you'll probably want a cab - and go to Cielo in Victorian Village. VERY romantic, great food, and attentive service.
