Heading for the Delta for a few days. What restaurants are a "must". I've eaten at Doe's in Greenville and will probably head back there. What about Lusco's in Greenwood or KC's in Cleveland? How about good fried chicken or catfish? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I recently moved to the Delta. I think you're on to most of the "must trys".

KC's is a newer, high end restaurant but the food is very good. Be sure to try the quail/fried green tomato app, for entree the lamb or pork chop are good selections.

Lusco's is an old Delta standy. Its rustic and in a rough part of town but should be an all around experience. Pompano is the thing to get there.

Crawdads in Merigold (the local favorite is another newer restaurant but has a very Delta feel to it-mostly steak and fried seafood, also crawfish just came in season). Giardinas in Greenwood is the new high end Delta restaurant. It is in the Alluvian hotel downtown which was recently renovated by Fred Carl-the founder of Viking Range.

Ditto Turner's recommendation. Always love Lusco's and Giardinia's is getting really good reviews from press and family. If you are in Greenwood around lunchtime, Crystal Grill is good. Really good fried oysters and they have catfish that my wife liked.

If you make it North an hour or two, Old Taylor Grocery just outside of Oxford has really good catfish. Not in the Delta though.

I've read about another good lunch place in Indianola.

I was not impressed with the McCarty's restaurant in Merigold. I wish we found Crawdads.

Abe's in Clarksdale for BBQ.

Greenville has a nice Italian restaurant called Fermo's. And locals enjoy the seafood, steaks, and spaghetti at Sherman's. If you want something really casual, across the street from Sherman's, in the middle of a parking lot, is a little place with good catfish, burgers, and milk shakes. I can't remember whether it's called Gino's or Abide's these days.

I don't know what would make these a "must", but they all have good food. I'm a Greenville native and these are the places I like to go to when I'm in town (once a year or so).

There is a very old Italian place in Leland called Lillo's, which a lot of people enjoy, but I haven't been there in many years, so maybe someone else can comment on it.
