Just wondering. Ordered it to give as a wedding gift to a friend and hadn't seen any reviews other than the Saveur article and a story in yesterday's AJC. Any thoughts?

I devoured it last week - it's a beautiful book and made me want to rush home and fry up some chicken and find a source for lady peas and such in California. Haven't actually tried any of the recipes yet, but am looking forward to it and even if I don't, it was a good read.

I ordered pre-publication and have had it for a couple of weeks. It is superb. If you are interested in Southern Cuisine it is a must for the kitchen. It is extremely well written and the "trucs" (tips) are terific.

Fun cookbook. I have had success with most of the recipes. However, the turtle soup didn't work out. I made a special trip Sweet Auburn market to get turtle meat. The broth was good, but things fell apart with the dumplings. Probably bad technique. I'll try again.

The book is as delicious as Miss Lewis' recipes. This a beautiful book which treats fine southern cooking with the respect it deserves.

Try the chicken and rice dish in the Saveur. It is fantastic and lived up to the hype in the article. I swear I could taste the "pure" chicken essence they were talking about!

It is great!! I am going to get one for my son and my daughter. Recipes are clearly explained; many traditional southern recipes, and many with special touches. All ingredients readily available. The cornbread with corn, okra and onions is great. I spent all weekend using it!
