I will go to Memphis next week. I'm a BBQ fan off course, but this time I want to eat flavorful catfish. Can anyone tell us if its worth a trip to Hagy's Catfish Hotel in Shiloh, TN. How is the food there?

loved it! the catfish was wonderful but I do not know if it was worth a drive fr/ Memphis unless you plan to spend the day at Shiloh, Savannah, or Corinth, MS.
There is an interesting story about the place & it was good but, quite frankly, I have had fried catfish as good elsewhere. My suggestion is to drive fr/ Memphis early in order to visit Shiloh Battlefield, Savannah & Corinth, MS ( a note: Corinth is dry! to the point of it is illegal to bring alcohol into the town) spend the day & stop at Hagy's on the way back to Memphis. Better yet, stay in Savannah or Corinth for a night & take in the history of the region before heading back to Memphis.

You don't have to go far from Memphis to get catfish just as good or better. "The Chatter Box" at 3427 Byhalia Rd right outside of Olive Branch Ms and "The Olive Branch Catfish Company" at 9659 Old Hwy 78. These serve as good catfish as I have ever eaten and are just over the state line as you leave Memphis going south.

It's definitely worth a trip to the Catfish Hotel. I realize that some folks near Memphis rave about other places, but having lived near Shiloh most of my life and in the Memphis area for a few years, I can say that there's no competition. The Catfish Hotel wins easily. The catfish is great (small fish cooked to perfection), the hushpuppies delicious, and the coleslaw something that must be experienced. It's brought to the table in a bowl and you add the dressing to it yourself. They offer 3 kinds of dressing...a traditional (even though it's orange) coleslaw dressing, bleu cheese dressing (really for folks who eat salads) and thousand island dressing (also for salad eaters), and some brave folks try all 3 kinds on their slaw. And the best part of all is that while you're eating you look out the big windows and see one of the most beautiful rivers in the South.

Also nearby is Pickwick Catfish Farm, which specializes in smoked catfish. It's wonderful, and if you have a chance, try it. Great hushpuppies and slaw there, as well.
