another recommendation for bbq travelling down I-95
This place is not as good as NC bbq, but it was mighty tasty for VA. It's King's BBQ in Petersburg, VA, on the 2900 block of Crater Rd. You can get there by getting off at the Crater Rd. exit on I-95 heading south (and if you coming down I-85, it's easy to get back on from Crater Rd.). The puppies were good too.

Just did the BBQ thing---I'm a Pennsylvania boy and claim to be no expert.
Here are some of the stops near (less than an hour away) I-95
Smokey Pig in Ashland, VA---good sandwich, OK sweet tea.
Bob Melton's BBQ---Rocky Mount, NC. Dry, but flavorful. Very good sweet tea, great hushpuppies and boiled potatoes.
Wilber's---Goldsboro, NC. Even better (and juicier) BBQ. Great hushpuppies (awesome without any spread), bland potato salad, excellent sweet tea!
Best BBQ on the trip...Ben's Whole Hog BBQ in Manassas VA! Juicy and yummy. Great bread pudding too!-
re: Stan
McCalls BBQ & Seafood Restaurant has the best BBQ i have ever tasted. I have lived in Richmond Va. and the smokey pig is nasty and kings isn't to much better. Rockey MT BBQ is ok but doesn't measure up to Mccalls. Next is Wilbur BBQ right across the street from mccalls.
