We were impressed by the Green Hill semi-ripened cheese at Five and Ten in Athens a couple of months ago. When Cliff Bostock mentioned it in a recent Creative Loafing article, I decided I needed to look for it in area stores.

The first place I happened upon the Green Hill was at the new Cook's Warehouse/Sherlock's store in Brookhaven. Bought the cheese, which was $10 for a hockey puck-sized round. Later that day, I saw the same cheese at Whole Foods. The difference was amazing- the Whole Foods' one was moist and soft, the CW one was dry and hard. Given the price, I journeyed back to the CW to return the first cheese I'd bought and showed them the other one for comparison. No problems with them, but what a huge time suck in travel.

The cheese is wonderful- soft and creamy with all kinds of funky flavors and aromas going on. Definitely a challenge to the palate.

The dairy is in Thomasville, GA, and Whole Foods had at least one other variety, though I forget what it was.
