Greenville/Spartanburg, SC recommendations

Pan Jun 20, 2001 01:03 AM

This area of the South hasn't been discussed much on these boards. I noticed a recommendation for the Beacon for barbecued pork (do they serve any worthwhile barbecued chicken or other non-pig items?), and one hound's recommendations of restaurants suitable for a business lunch (but perhaps pricy?).

Anyone have any recommendations for tasty <$25 meals in the Greenville/Spartanburg area? For that matter, does anyone on these boards live anywhere near that area?

I second the reccommendation for Soby's! Good food, good service, good atmosphere!

All right. Maybe I'll splurge for Soby's. (I looked at the menu on their website, and it's pricey, by my standards.)

I live 30 miles from Greenville, 60 from Spartanburg.

I don't do the fine dining thing, but if you want info about bbq, burgers, and mom-and-pop places, I may be able to help.

I live in Spartanburg and if your looking for elegant try Ellis's An American Bistro in downtown Spartanburg. It's very elegant and a little pricey, and the food is great.

I'd strongly recommend Abby's Grill in Spartanburg (on Morgan Square in the middle of town) and the Augusta Grill in Greenville (on Augusta St.). Best chefs in area, great service, reasonably priced.
