anything good in Sumter SC?

  • a

I'll be there for a day and a night - I've heard there are good places around the air base.

Don't have too much in the immediate area, but here are two to try:

    South Carolina

Rembert (E mid, ~15 mis NW of Sumter, along US 521)
Mill Pond Restaurant - 84 Boykin Mill Rd - 803/424-0261 - Fine dining

    Sumter (E mid)
    Wards Bar B Q - 2 locations: 1087 Alice Dr, 803/775-0008; 416 E. Liberty St, 775-2490 - BBQ

On the road between the base and town, I saw a restaurant named Redbone Alley. I stopped by, but as I walked across the lot I saw a little Mexican place called San Jose, tucked WAY back in the corner of the strip mall, almost invisible. I tried them, and they were OK.

You should have tried Redbone Alley. This place is GREAT! I also like the management, and ask for either Daniel, Josh, or Doyle to serve you. They are the better waiters. You can get a half order of anything on the menu except steak and fish. I really enjoy their mixed grill and thier salads (get a half order!).
