Birthday Cake in Naples, FL

I am helping to organize a 90th birthday celebration for my grandmother, to be held in Naples this spring. I'm not from the area, so was hoping for suggestions for the best local source to acquire a delicious birthday cake for this very special event. Any thoughts?

SweetHartz Confectionery in Naples makes the best cakes! I their chocolate cake is so moist it will last for days and still be great! And, the butter cream frosting (I understand that they make their own) is creamy and perfect. I have also had their strawberry and peanut butter cakes. It's the only place we get out birthday cakes.

Publix cakes are popular but made with crisco type buttercream.

Norman Love's Chocolate salon makes fabulous cakes. The fad these days is to use cupcakes. There are several Naples bakeries doing this. Simply Cupcakes would be my choice for a cupcake tower.

SweetHartz makes great cupcakes too, but they only make them to order so you need to plan ahead.

Try Wynn's Market on 41, Tony's Off Third, and perhaps
the French Bread Oven.

I second Newt's recommendation for French Bread Oven. They have some of the best pastries around and I imagine their cakes will be a cut above the standard fare you would find in a supermarket. I would also check out EVOO Market in north naples. They have pretty good desserts also.

I'm not from Naples so I don't know about any friendly neighborhood bakeries, but you can't go wrong with a cake from Publix. They're the leading supermarket chain in Florida, with very nice clean stores and high-quality products. Their in-store bakeries are always really terrific, and I've always gotten custom-made birthday cakes from there.
