We are searching for an authentic Thai restaurnt in Sarasota. We had been recommeded to try Bangkok, on Swift, and did that to-day. As far as we are concerned the food was more Chinese than Thai. The sauces had no sublety and the dishes very bland, even though we requested one of the dishes to be HOT.

Thanks for your input.

I'm afraid you might be SOL for Thai in Sarasota. The most recent Thai meal I had was at Thai Garden, 4804 The Landings Shopping Center at S. Tamiami and Proctor, 922-0032. The pad thai was way too sweet, but the nam sod was pretty good. Worth a shot if you want to keep trying thai places in the area. Taste of Asia on Main also does some Thai and the tom yum I had there wasn't bad. Good luck.

If we ever come up with a good Thai restaurant we will post it on Chowhound.

Thanks again

Have you tried "Thailand" on Gulf Gate Dr.? I've found it to be as good as most in my former home, NYC. Much better than downtown Thai. Only been there 2 times and found the green and Penang curries quite credible. And, yes, I've been to Thailand - at least 5 times. When asked about spicing, I request ethnic restaurants to "cook it like they do at home". That way I don't (or do) get burned.

I've always enjoyed Siam Orchid at 4141 S. Tamiami in the plaza behind Chili's. I transferred to Philly and believe it or not while the restaurant scene here is incredible, I've yet to find above average Thai food. So I go to Siam Orchid whenever I'm down for a visit. The owners are very nice people as well, you will be very well taken care of.

We have always enjoyed Tropical Thai on Main street in downtown Sarasota. We've ordered a number of items not on the menu and were always pleasantly surprised.
