If this is for eat-in, then I'd suggest either of the Jasmine thai restaurants. Not only is the food wonderful but both restaurants have decors that create a wonderful visual experience as well. The Jasmine Thai in Brandon has many ancient Thai artifacts throughout.

If it is take-out that you're looking for, I like Suné Thai on Dale Mabry just south of Gandy.

The Thai Hut in South Tampa on bay to Bay. Ive never been dissapointed. Or Thai Tani in Channelside.

Thanks. You know of anything in North Tampa? Near University

IMO, Tampa doesn't have a thai restaurant that really stands out from the rest. I second Jasmine Thai, and Sukhothai on Dale Mabry is pretty good, but haven't been there in years. around USF there is Lai Thai on Fletcher and Sawadtee on 56th. Both will do in a pinch. I found service at Sawadtee to be poor, but the food is pretty god. The drunken noodle stands out there.

Lai Thai on Fletcher was good about 10 years ago but it slipped up along the way. I haven't tried it in a few years so maybe it's back? Would love to hear if any place is currently good in Tampa.

I don't remember finding consistently good Thai in North Tampa. Moving over to Pinellas was great for Thai food, there's several good places in this county :-)

Thanks. Probably will go to the one on Fletcher given that I am coming from Pasco County. Thanks again for all the help. Will post letting you know how it is. Living in Brooklyn one gets a bit spoiled. Although I have had great thai in Sarasota (well bradenton I guess)

Sorry that I'm late to the party, but Thai Orchid on Cross Creek (off of BBD in North Tampa) is my favorite Thai in the area, and there is also a Thai place off of BBD near Tampa Palms next to the Lifestyles gym that is pretty good and close to you.

                1. re: Hojo

Ruby Thai is at Amberly and BBD.

Why was this old post resurrected?

I don't think we have a shortage of decent Thai restaurants around town. I've never understood the fascination with Jasmine Thai- I've never found it to be a value and there are many better choices.

It appears the thread was resurrected by someone new in town who liked Jasmine Thai. I like it too so it did not bother me.

Care to share the location of the great Thai in Bradenton? I'd like to try it.

                  Thanks

Lai Thai is a real stinker, and i'd never suiggest it today. Thai Ruby is pretty good. I like the green curry there. The Thai place on Howard is pretty good. I just go to the Thai Temple on Palm River for my fix these days.

            2. re: Rick

Oops. That's the Thai House and you should only go there if you like Cappy's Pizza : )

          2. I second on Jasmine Thai on 13248 North Dale Mabry Highway. It was fabulous! I had the calamari to start with with two dipping sauces. Very tender calamari and freshly sliced. I am a huge duck fan, and I can't stand to be disappointed with duck when trying out a new thai restaurant. And this duck was fantastic! I had the ginger duck and it was enough to feed two :) The presentation was beautiful and I enjoyed hearing about the featured entrees and wine specials. This small restaurant is cozy and romantic, but casual to go in solo because they make you feel right at home. Kent, my server was so nice and was so pleased to have me. I will most definitely return! Oh! Jasmine Thai also has a private room enough for 5 or 6. Call in advance to request. Just make sure your feet look pretty because as customed, you will be asked to take off your shoes. :)

Jasmine Thai has been consistently great for years now. Another Thai place you might want to try is Thai Sweet Basil. It's a bit farther north on Northdale.

            2. I really like Thailand Restaurant, 5252 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa. I like the flavor, and if you ask for your dish "Thai Hot" the burn won't be disappointing. Try the dried Thai chiles for that extra kick.

Thailand Restaurant is my favorite thai place....but i usually get "no hot"...which is usually a little hot!

              2. Whatever you do, avoid Thai Terrace on Dale Mabry, despite its good citisearch.com reviews. I ate there a couple of days ago. I think they literally made their soup broth from those dried boullion cubes from the grocery store, and the 'curry' was sweet and gloppy, and not at all hot despite my asking for it very hot, with big clumsy undercooked chunks of boring vegetables like bell peppers in it. I also suspect they bought frozen, pre-made egg rolls at the grocery and served them.

Do people on this board like Royal Thai on South Howard? I haven't tried it yet but it's convenient for me and I have heard good things.

I haven't been to Royal Thai in awhile since I moved out of the S. Tampa area but when I lived there it was consistently good.

Anyone tried this place? How does it compare to Jasmine?

                  1. Jasmine Thai is prob one of the better over all Thai places that I've tried, Sukothai has always been my favorite, I eat there atleast once a week for lunch but the last couple of months they have seemed to be falling down the drain:( So sad, they are microwaving their food and their spring rolls 2. I belive there is also a Sukhothai in North Tampa/Tampa Palms area but I hvnt been. I would steer clear of Thailand on S Dale Mabry, I went there last week, it's more Chinese than Thai, they even serve fortune cookies at the end of your meal!
p.s. THE BANANA AND COCONUT ICE CREAM DESSART AT JASMINE IS DELISH

Rebecca's post above is a couple of years old, so maybe things have changed at Thai Terrace but I have to say that I really like it. I have eaten there five or six times and all of the meals have been very good. Most recently we carried out the duck and apple salad, pad sew and panang curry. All three dishes were great.

Hidden out of the way place.

The last time we were there we ordered several items, but the one that stood out was the "Soft Shell Crab Panang". You have to try this dish.

                      1. I, too, am a fan of Jasmine Thai on Dale Mabry, with Royal Thai Palace on Howard in Hyde Park a close second. However, I have been surprised by the number of very good Thai restaurants in the Tampa area. I can't really think of a mediocre one. They're all good or better, something which would be nice to be able to say about the ethnic cuisines of other countries.

                        1. Jasmine Thai is a bit heavy on the coconut milk for my taste, and their tofu isn't the freshest.

Golden Orchid (on Dale Mabry just south of Gandy, almost across the street from Home Depot) is wonderful--fresh, light, spicy and delicious. It's the best in town at the moment, IMO of course.

Do NOT confuse Golden Orchid with Thailand restaurant, which is, weirdly, next door, but to be avoided at all costs.
