133732 Fri Nov 04 14:40:54 -0800 2005 4 10 Florida 0 719607 yes, the 80 year-old burger stand--- one of the first drive-in restaurants in the world--- is closing at teh end of the month. property is being cleared for--- surprise!--- yet more condos. needless to say, this is a bitter blow for old restaurant enthusiasts. recently renovayted for the movie Punisher, it has looked nice for the last couple years, and the burgers and poie great as always. The former carhop turned restaurateur, Yvonne Freeman, will preside over the last days of the GG with her son. ye have been warned. go get a burger (with the house tomato sauce---- "a little sloppy.") and some pie (prefereably their superlative butterscotch). I will be making a couple pilgrimages in the coming weeks and plan on shooting a film of a few old-timers... It might be tough to get food, never mind the pie, which is always scarce. i'll be shooting a farewell film in the coming weeks. Mon Nov 07 12:45:53 -0800 2005 719610 0 andy huse 3 719663 Well, we got there at 3:05pm on Saturday, the neon light glowed "Open", and there were about 6 patrons inside, the grill was frying, but when we sat down, the rudest lady came over and said, "Cant you tell we are closed?" I stared at her and looked around, pointed to the sign and said.."Um, no"..loudly she said "well we are." Wont be visiting this place, and found out there demise is the 30th of November! Oh well.... You'll have to cut the ladiies a little slack, tho--- i never saw a more rude and piggish clientele as i saw saturday, wioth three people running the entire joint. people wouldn't even let me through the door without bitching. i'll be going back to film a farewell, but i will most definitely eat beforehand.
