I'm looking for a place that sells Italian Ice or Hawaiian shaved ice fresh. I know I can buy one at Publix, but there used to be stores such as Rita's that used to sell them and I'm wondering if there are any around. I live in the South Broward area and am willing to travel throughout Dade & Broward since I travel throughout those counties often.

There are quite a few ices places in Broward. My current favorite is the one on US1 in Hollywood across from Jack's Hollywood Diner., a few blocks north of downtown. Made fresh on the premises and they use real fruit. Good lemon, rich mango, and in the fall, a terrific pumpkin. Others I can think of are on Commercial in Oakland Park and one on Wiles (or is it Sample?) near Coral Springs Drive in Coral Springs.

Mr. G's or whatever it's called, on A1A at Sunrise in Ft. Lauderdale, was decent enough last time I checked.

A few weeks ago, driving past part of the Seminole reservation in Hollywood, in one of those dirt lots with cigarette-store trailers and the like, I saw a Sno-Ball trailer. I've been meaning to find it again when it's open to see if they make them New Orleans-style with condensed milk drizzled on top.

Even better is Beach Snoballs in Treasure Island. The owners are from New Orleans and grew up making them for one of the oldest snoball companies. They make the best and they have flavors that cater to peoploe from New Orleans and Baltimore to include sweetened condensed milk, marshmello cream. And you can get gourmet stuffed ones, the tiers creamy wedding cake is my favorite with ice cream and crushed pineapples in it. My family and I call it, "sno crack" because it is so addicting.

You must check out Cecilie's Gourmet Ices on Wiles Road between University and Coral Ridge Drive in Coral Springs.

They're water ices, just like Rita's. They're all homemade and the flavors are really unique. In addition to the typical lemon, chocolate, cherry, etc. he's also had Cappucino Crunch, Rum Raisin, Blueberry Cheesecake, and even Avocado.

I go to this place every day when I'm visiting South Florida.
