Anybody remember Arthur's in Miami?

Anybody remember Arthur's in Miami I think it was on biscayne near 79th st? I used to eat there all the time in the 70's as a kid..I remember them having the best dessert of all time. Brandy snaps..their version was a brandy snap gooey outer shell like a cannoli shape, filled with ice cold vanilla icecream and then covered in hot chocolate fudge..I think they used to have jazz there too, anybody remember this place?

Never found this dessert anywhere else......

Is Mitch's Steak House still around? I used to live right by that stretch of Collins Avenue (7400 block) circa 1980- It was the best Caesar Salad ever!!!! They used to toss in rolling carts right by your table- also delicious well-seasoned steak in sizzling platters and massive baked potato in foil!!!- Also on that stretch was a Polish Deli on the east side of Collins that had Chicago style hot dogs- Cannot remember the name..... I had some of my best S Florida pizza at Sunshine Pizza next door- primarily a carry-out place

I remember Arthur's and the dessert. It was like a profiterole. I even remember Arthur's original place, which was called Arthur's Eating House down near Omni!
Those were the good old days, when Prince Hamlet was down in the 80's on Biscayne... remember???

Ah, yes, Prince Hamlet - we used to love it. And what about The Place for Steak, the Bonfire, Gallagher's, the Bottlecap Inn, the Luau... I'm not so sure how the food compares to today's standards, but those were definitely the good old days:)!!!

Been in NY for many years, but the restaurants of my childhood are very vivid, what about Mitch's Steak ranch in its heyday, and of course, my favorite The Studio with its dessert room, the red coach grill-a scene of many family arguments, the poison pit the copper penny, The Pub which had the best rye bread, and a fountain for wishes, Tropical Acres which doesn't resemble its former self, Cliffords, my grandmother's hangout which actually had pretty good prime rib and liver and onions for my mother...The old Forge in its heyday was superb, the 1800 club--is that the name of that place in a weird hotel off bisc somewhere...mr. coney island (from 163rd st. )proof that NMB was a piece of long island that came off and drifted south........oh the memories!

ABSOLUTELY!!!! We used to love Clifford's roast beef... and, also the caesar salad at Mitch's..... and what about Curry's right next door..... we used to have a roast duckling dinner for $4.95..... and that was only in the 70's!!!!! Remembering well, all the others!!

I woke up this morning and had a memory of this place in my head..someone please help me remember where it was exactly...it was called Sonny's an italian place complete with the red checkered tablecloths (in the marcella's from north miami style)...I think it was somewhere in broward, maybe hollywood, used to go in the 60's and early 70's...anybody know what I'm talking about? it's driving me crazy!!

My memories of it as a kid were that it was great, kind of like the old Meyer's pizza parlor before it burned down, when Miami seemed so isolated and innocent--

In the old days - The early 70's - The Studio with it's dessert cart (Chocolate moose) and it's undocumented foreign servers. A great, tiny little Cuban place on SW 8th called The Madrid. Gracies' Italian on NW 54th(I think). In Hollywood - on Young's circle - a place called The Gourmet. Kind of a gourmet buffet. Marcello's on Dixie in North Miami (also in West Hollywood on SR 7.) Breakfast on Sunday at Wolfies or The Rascal or Pumpernick's. Ice cream at Jackson's in Dania. BBQ and conch chowder at Ernies in Lauderdale on US1.

Jaxson's (US 1 in Dania) still has swell ice cream.

But since Ernie's was sold to the owner of the Floridian there's no reason to even slow down. The barbecue's now terrible and the rest of the menu is the same second-tier diner food as the Flo, only without the Flo's redeeming breakfasts and 24/7 availability.

Wasn't there a Jahn's Ice Cream Parlour on Miami Beach?

It's been years since I was down in Lauderdale with a chance to check out the old places. Too bad about Ernie's. That chonch chowder and Bimini bread were to die for. Served up with his strange political rantings, written on the wall.

I remembe the names but never went to either of those places.
Do you remember a decent (if maybe mob connected) Italian place on Hallendale Beach Blvd? I think they also had a second location in West Palm on Palm Beach Lakes Blvd.

Yes, I remember two of them, actually. One was a small hole in the wall on the north side in a strip shopping center. It might have been "Marcello's"???? and the other was a grand old house on the south side, just a block or so off of Biscayne, called Villa Perrone, which is now Redfish Bluefish.

Do you mean Doria's? My sister used to get the bus there when she went to Pine Crest school in Ft. Lauderdale? I think it later became Lums, and man oh man, did the world lose something without the ollie burger from Lums...

Gracie's was the best Italian restaurant in the world! And how about the Bottle Cap Inn on 119th Street - square pizza and Guiness World Book of Records because all the walls were covered with bottle caps. Not an inch of paint was shown. Did anyone ever go to Sloppy Joe's hot dogs downtown? Fresh squeezed Limeaid and crispy hot dogs. At least there's still Arbetter's!

Talk about a trip down memory lane.....I thought no one remembered those places.........do you remeber Fun Fair, too? It was right down the street from Nick & Arthurs , it was between them and the Luau..........not much in the way of food there, but the knishes were ok.

Yes, went to Fun fair all the time! Those were the days when the helicopters at kiddie land at 163rd street shopping center were the local pre-psychedelic experience--and the train circled the party room where every nmb kid would inevitably be sanctioned a birthday party, and when one would much later go to the famed JJ's across from NMB sr high for burgers etc. Coney Island reigned supreme then, noone could touch their hot dogs...did it all really taste that good, or is it just the nostalgia. It seems everything was better in the 60's the dairy queen's, farm stores chocolate marshmallow ice cream, and all the favorites mentioned in this thread. You know, I think it really was better, even the sky seemed bluer. It really is true, youth is wasted on the young.
