In the FQ, you might look into the Ritz Carlton. I haven't been in a while, and it's under renovation, but the service there was always spectacular. Just outside of the Quarter is the Windsor Court, which is consistently ranked as one of the best hotels around. It's also got a great restaurant, the Louisiana Grill. There's a large Marriot right on Canal Street, and the Monteleone is another good choice - on Royal Street. (http://www.hotelmonteleone.com/)

Not sure why you want a big hotel, but I have often stayed at the Richelieu when Im with the fellas. Its on the quieter, Esplanade side of the quarter. Its pretty old school, lots of rooms, relatively inexpensive. But its not big like a Hilton. There are probably 100 rooms or so. Relaxed but not at all trendy bar, there is a decent outdoor pool (not sure when you are going), and, a real luxury in the quarter, free parking. I also like it because it is in the Quarter within walking distance of lots of stuff, but in a very quiet part, near the market, good breakfast places frequented by market workers, and just a stone's throw from Jean Lafitte's. You can visit the craziness on Bourbon Street, but dont have to go to bed with visions of flourescent slushy drinks in your head.

Have a blast wherever you end up. Im on my way down today for the long weekend. Whahaayyyy.

I agree stay at Le Richelieu www.lerichelieuhotel.com, you will not be disappointed. We've been staying there for 11 years at least 5 to 6 times a year. The bar is fun lots of locals the staff is the best & the location is perfect. Tell Colleen Gene & Lyn from Tulsa sent you. We go back for Mardi Gras.....can't wait.
