Who bakes the best cherry pie in the Seattle or Eastside area? I'd love to pick up a great one for a party next weekend. Thanks.

I can't bring myself to buy a cherry pie this time of year. If you want a truly OUTRAGEOUS cherry pie, go to the Pike Place Market (or any well stocked farmer's market) and buy a box or two of fresh sour pie cherries, a couple of boxes of raspberries, and about 5 or 6 stalks of rhubarb. Loosely follow a pie cherry or rhubarb pie recipe and you will end up making the best pie imaginable. This is the Holy Triumverate time of year, about a three week window each summer when you can get fresh pie cherries, rhubarb and raspberries and make the best dang pie on the planet-o. I add a dash of freshly grated nutmeg, and a dusting of cinnamon sugar in the filling, but it is not really needed, the fruit speaks for itself. Oh, and that is a fruit pie that has plenty to say, and it says such tart, sweet nothings...

"Where pies go to die."
Oddly enough, the best cherry pie I ever had was at the R&R cafe in North Bend. (AKA the 'Mar T Cafe' from Twin Peaks.)
Stopped in there once, back in the Twin Peaks days, for kicks- and damn- that was good pie.
The town is a lot more developed now, and it is easier to get to from the highway....
Anyways it is located at: 137 W North Bend Way in North Bend.
I know the building burned down in 2000 and I'm not 100% sure what happened after that but if they are up and running, well all I have to say is "Where's my paper and pen, I've got to write a poem about this pie."

They rebuilt the diner. I had breakfast there 3 weeks ago and it was a great diner breakfast. I loved the hashbrowns and buckwheat pancakes. Don't know about the pie, though.
