Is Mike Serio's (on St Charles near Canal) still open? I was there a few years ago and liked it (go LSU) but never see anything about it on this board.

Is it closed? Or that poorly regarded?

Thanks,

Yes, it is still open. Good enough sandwiches; they cater to the CBD lunch crowd and close early on Saturdays. It is filled with LSU/SEC memorabilia, but it isn't the cleanest place in the world. Plate lunches/specials are decent. In short, if you're in the neighborhood & don't want to re-park the car, you can get a decent lunch. I wouldn't go out of my way...

Grungy place with fair sandwiches. Nothing special.
Not as dirty as Domalise's but not as good either.

Plus the Serio's have a very unsavory reputation in law enforcement circles after the owner and a couple of friends beat up a couple (M&F) and a third person (a woman)in an pre-dawn parking dispute during either Mard Gras or the Jazz Fest.

The threesome tempted fate by parking in front of Serio's at a time when the boss hog wanted the space kept clear for his own purposes.

You gotta like LSU a whole lot to deal with the grime and grease at Serio's.

Unless you want to eat cheap in the CBD or Warehouse District go to Mother's. If you want to eat cheap, go to Johnny's Po-Boys on Union Street. Not much cleaner but a lot better.

This may be a habit for them. I read an account in the newspaper of a similar four on one beating involving a black gentleman who came to the defense of a lady whose car was being beat on as she tried to park in front of the restaurant during a weekday post mardi-gras. Apparently it was being investigated as a hate crime because witnesses heard numerous derogatory statements regarding the race of the victim. I won't spend my money there.
