Is this a tourist trap or is it a good restaurant for locals? Please advise.

Also, is this a good first date restaurant? Can you name any quaint, cozy good restaurants with a first date? We're both locals and price needs to be reasonable, but I'm not afraid to spend a money for a good meal. I would prefer it to be in the Quarter or Marigny.

Thanks for your help...

Its good for the balcony only. I found the food to be sub-par at best. On the first date question, there have been several posts in the last few days on that exact issue.

I've received word that it's aggressively average. Sounds like tourist trap to me. Avoid at all cost...

I knew a girl who worked here. Her judgement was usually clear-headed (and occasionally brutal), so I'll pass along her thoughts.

The place is not a tourist trap - it's miles beyond Pere Antoine's, Tortorici's, or any of those types. They're pretty good. I think she liked anything they did with eggplant.

The thing is, there are 20 restaurants within a five-minute walk that are vastly better. (She tried to defend them by saying that the Royal Cafe would be incredible if it moved to, say, Omaha. Which is like saying that a ballplayer would be good if he moved from the Houston Astros down to Double-A Round Rock.)

I've been to this place. I have found the food and service to be great. The balcony has to be the best first date place ever. New Orleans never looked better.

I never felt like this was a tourist trap. Lots of locals at the bar and a great piano.

We enjoyed it and would diffinately return.
