coming down for JF and want to make a reservation for our group. Have done the Jacque Imos thing, and although great, want to try someplace new....everyone complains about waiting there, but I find it to be part of the fun/experience....anyway, can anyone recommend a place similar in food/price as Jacque Imos, that I can get a reservation for...

looking for a lively place, not stuffy, real-deal food, etc....something perhaps off the beaten path that will dazzle my group! i'm staying uptown on Jefferson Ave, but location doesn't really matter.

thanks...and can't wait!!!

This may be a flawed recall, having eaten both at Jacque-Imo's and Dick and Jennie's in a close span, but D&J's may just fill the bill for you. It's on Tchoupitoulas Street, between Napoleon and Jefferson, reasonably priced, but I'm unsure as to their reservation policy.

D&J is a good approximation of Jacque-Imo's but, alas, it too does not take reservations. I have found that the wait is not nearly as long, but I also have never been there during jazzfest. Its hard to rival J-I's for food, price and overall energy, and get reservations to boot. Clancy's and Gabrielle come close on two counts, but the price is substantially higher. Same for the Marigny Brasserie, unless you try their sunset specials (which I hear are quite good). Martinique, as I recall, is close in terms of price and food quality, but its much more tranquil. I'll give it more thought, but yours is a tough query.

I'm coming to New Orleans later this month before JF on the 20th - 23rd. First time in NO and I've read some good things about this place below. How long is the wait typically on a Monday or Tuesday? Is it easy to find? We are staying in the FQ and don't mind venturing out for good eats. Thanks!

I lived in NO with a cab driver! He was born and raised in NO and knew every "out of the way place" The place I liked (I'm a chef) very casual and would be great for a large crowd is R&O on Hammons Drive It is across from the Lake and would be great for your family outing. The osyters were the best I have ever ate.
