I loved this article about a veteran waiter at Galatoire who was fired over sexual harassment allegations and the heavy-weight regulars are trying to get him retired. I thought this would be an only-in-New York story, but, hey, it's in Nola....

Thanks for the article. I grew up eating regularly at Galitore's with my parents in the 50's and 60's. We had a wonderful relationship with our waiter, Lee McDaniels. Often ran into him at Wise Cafeteria on Monday's when Galitoire's was closed. It's hard for me to imagine a changed Galitoire's, so lately when I've been in town from CA, I haven't gone in. Maybe next time.

I am happy to report that not all New Orleanians are fools. Almost all the reaction I've heard, including discussions and letters to the editor of the T-P, has been supportive of Galatoire's decision to enforce its sexual harassment policy, and that the customers who wrote letters supporting the waiter are exposing themselves as backward-thinking boors.

Being a transplant to New Orleans, I guess I don't truly understand the Galatoire's food culture.

I found it quite disturbing that you had "prominent" people (lawyers, MD's, Ph.D.'s and even a Pulitzer Prize winner) stand up for Gilberto in spite of the cause for his dismissal.

Now seeing the reaction of the average folk, I have faith in the people of New Orleans.

All of this illustrates that the more education you have, the less common sense you have. Those pompous fools.

Now, just wait a minute please.

We pompous fools need love, too. And it is our preference to be referred to as aristocratic and genteel, rather than pompous.

You appear to be a most insensitive and vulgar person to speak so vilely.
