I am planning a trip to New Orleans with 3 other females and we were wanting some suggestions for hotels that are close to the French Quarter yet moderately priced. What about the Clarion Grand Boutique on St. Charles, is that a safe place? We will be traveling in a group at all times, but we don't want to risk our safety. Any responses would be helpful because we'd like to have fun in the Big Easy and not have to worry about our safety.

Thanks

You might check the LaQuinta web site. I've got a friend staying at the LaQuinta 2 blocks off Canal next month and she got a rate online for $70 per night.

Go to either Expedia.com or Hotels.com and check out the rates. There are some amazing deals under $100 a nite adjacent to and in The Quarter. Including real luxury hotels. Last month I saw The InterContinental for $89/nite and Le Pavillion for about the same. You'll get great deals all summer if you hunt and peck around.

I got turned on to New Orleans about 12 years ago and going to this wonderful city has become a passion for me.
There is so much there, music, food, a very different way of looking at life, all of which make it very special .
I have stayed in may different hotels, upscale as well as somewhat seedy.
My favorite places to stay are: Auld's Sweet Olive B&B in the Faubourg Marigny, for extended periods of time I have rented an apartment.
Staying at a B&B, especially one as clean and creatively decorated as the Stuart's is an experience.
Staying there is like visiting a friend, his prices are very reasonable and fair.
He bakes fresh bread for his guests, provides information and opinions that you will not get at any of the big hotels, he even irons his guests sheets..imagine that.
The Marigny is getting to be one of the up and coming "In" areas, developing at this time with upscale restaurants as well as keeping the old and funky local places, there are lots of live music, as well as eclectic coffee shopsand interesting ethnic corner bakeries and deli's.
This area has kept it's neighborhood feeling (non touristy) it is safe, interesting and the people are
friendly.
Yet is is only several blocks away from the French Quarter, a safe and pleasant walk, while you are looking at all of the interesting houses.
I personally can't handle the heat in the summer in NO, however once the weather turns cooler I will be back.

I just returned from New Orleans. I stayed for the first time at International House. I found a rate on the web of $99/night. It is just two blocks off of Canal in a very good area. I cannot say enough good things about the hotel I used to stay at the Windsor Court but International House is my place in New Orleans now. It was wonderful!

I highly recommend the Hotel Provincal near Ursuline on Chartres. The area was very safe, yet in quiet part of the French Quarter. Staff was extremely helpful. It was nice to exit through the back of the building and be almost across the street from Cafe du Monde.

There are some good rates at Quikbook.com. I wonder if anyone has tried the Hotel LeCirque? There are some great rates there and the website makes the hotel look pretty good.

I went to New Orleans on a short trip, right after Easter. Had a great stay at the Royal St. Charles, which was just on the edge of the French Quarter, with a trolley stop just steps away. Very nice, not touristy at all. Comfortable room, large bathroom. Clean, good continental breakfast included, and accomodating staff. Do a search on their name for the exact address/contact info. I believe my traveling companion and I paid something like $90 a night for a room with two double beds.

I recommend the Monteleone. It's in the Quarter, it's a historic building, it has a nifty rooftop pool, and other amenties and interests. I got a rate of $85.00 p/night double occupancy. Enjoy.
