NO with kids: short stay

  • s

We will be in NO for basically one day on our way to the coast...will be staying in the French Q. area. would like to find a good place for breakfast, and a morning/1/2 afternoon plan to see local sights (not the aquarium & zoo thanks, we can see that at home!) The kids range in age from 6-17. Thanks!

  1. Cafe du Monde for biegnets and a visit to Blaine Kerns Mardi Gras World across the River in Algiers.
They have remnants of the old Mardi Gras floats - plus you might see work being done on some of next years floats. Ride the ferry across the River and I believe Mardi Gras World has a free shuttle that will pick you up at the ferry terminal - although it is a short walk along the levee.

    1. Cafe du Monde is a must. While near Jackson Square, you can check out the street performers as well as the Mardi Gras exhibit in the Cabildo, next to the Cathedral. Walk down Royal Street...plenty to see there!
Also, there's Children's Museum on Julia St. but your kids may be too old. And if there's any interest, check out the D-Day Museum.
      Hope this helps.

If you're looking for something more substantial than Cafe du Monde for breakfast, try La Peniche in the Faugbourg Marigny. I've attached a review. You could also go to Mother's (go early and have a "black ham" biscuit) on Tchopitoulas & Poydras for great, filling breakfasts. Not as touristy as CDM and both have a wide range of choices, rather than CdM's limited beignets-only menu.
