Hidden New Orleans Food in Gambit

  • c

There's an interesting article in this week's Gambit about food in New Orleans that's really off the beaten track. The article mentions the Vietnamese farmer's market, a seamstress in the Quarter who does a Phillipine lunch twice a week, the free vegetarian meal at the Krishna temple on Sunday nights plus a guy who sells cakes out of the back of his station wagon. I can't wait to try tracking some of these places down.

I've eaten the food at the Krishna temple. It is wonderful, and their religious message isn't forceful or agressive. They do feed a fair number of street people, so you won't be rubbing elbows with anyone famous. Still, it's excellent vegetarian fare.
