Desperate at Jazzfest!!!
I'm planning my annual trek to Jazzfest and this year have the money to shell out for a place in the French Quarter. In the past, I've had some of the best food of my life at the fairgrounds, but consistently gotten ripped off (high food not of the quality I know exists there) when I left. Last year we discovered Jacque Imo's, which was the exception. Didn't get seated till nearly midnight, but it was worth the wait. Is there anywhere in the Quarter that's not a tourist trap that I should try while staying there? Will I be able to get in? Have to mortgage my house?
The other exception is the Central Market Grocery. The muffalatta (sic!) is all it is billed to be!
Check out the post below from Nazerac under "Single in New Orleans". Sounds like there's a place right next to the H of B which is in the quarter.
Try Irene's Cuisine in the Quarter. No reservations---could be a very very long wait, so go as early as possible. This place and Jacques Imo (sp?) were our favorites.
Quick, cheap seafood Gumbo at Coop's on Decatur, also.
