upcoming Easter weekend in NO

We'll be spending a long Easter weekend in NO. Hopeful for a few restaurant and hotel thoughts. Any opinions on the Bourbon Orleans Hotel? Looks very well located and we can get a really good rate. Also considering W, Maison De Ville and Omni. Re restaurants, have read a lot of views from travel guides to chowhound postings, now need to make some decisions. We have 4 dinners - where do we HAVE to go? Don't mind if some are pricey. Any must go's for lunch or bfast? Thanks.

  1. Re the Maison de Ville, it's old and very nice but you're paying more for the service (unsurpassed) than the rooms. Rooms are small and your first impression is that you're not getting your money's worth. One breakfast delivered to your room will change all that. Staff is first class. The Bistro (attached) is one resturant to consider. Nice courtyard and the turtle in the fountain is real. Can't go wrong with Chowhound recommendations for dinner.

Somewhat similar to Maison de Ville is Soniat House. Old place, furnished with antiques. Nice breakfast with homemade jam in the room. Actually like it a little better than Maison. Very helpful with restaurant recs and reservations. Check it out.

Your best source for thorough reviews is Tom Fitzmorris's "The Eclectic Gourmet Guide to New Orleans", ISBN 0-89732-368-8.

        My personal recommendations:

        Big deal/expensive:

        Commander's Palace, Galatoire's, Bayona

        Less expensive:

        Mr. B's, Upperline, Brigtsen's

        Good values:

        Uglesich's, Bon Ton, Acme's.
