Smoking/Non-Smoking Areas in NO Restaurants?

I live in a state where smoking is not allowed by law inside restaurants (California). What should I expect in New Orleans? Smoking everywhere, smoking only in designated sections, ????
Most restaurants have smoking sections, although this is less true in the tourist areas, such as the Quarter. The newer bistros which have just one dining room will usually not allow smoking at at all. Also, remember that many restaurants in New Orleans do not have bar areas, so this is not an option for many restaurants. Some that don't allow smoking inside do have courtyards with tables where you can dine and smoke.
In the neighborhoods smoking is generally allowed with generous smoking sections. It is best though to call ahead one way or the other. I have never felt it to be a problem.
