I first had this ten years ago when it appeared on the menu because someone else had requested it. I was told that is the only way you might find it-to call ahead and request it. Having said this it is the single best slice of cake I have ever eaten in my life. It's been several years but do they still have it? Is it as good?
This is and the barbequed shrimp were the only reasons to go there.

Never had it at K-Paul's but there is a recipe for Down-Home Coconut-Pecan Candy Bar Cake in "Chef Paul Prudhomme Seasons America" cookbook. He specifically urges the reader to use only fresh coconut!

That's not it. The recipe actually is in the Prudhomme Family Cook Book and I've made it. His insistence on cracking the coconut yourself along with the amount of butter is insurance that when Chef Paul really wants to do something right he can do it. also he serves this cake on a "bed" of chantilly whipped cream which is heavy cream laced with courvoisier and whipped with sour cream.
