Dim Sum & Authentic Chinese?

T-D. Jan 24, 2001 06:20 PM

Hi, can anyone tell me where I can find high-quality Dim Sum and other authentic Chinese food in New Orleans. Back when I was in college, about 8 years ago, there were probably two REAL Chinese restaurants in the whole city. Everything else was Vietnamese, disguised as Chinese. Can anyone help?

Authentic Chinese food, with or without dim sum, does not exist in this city. Or maybe if you got acquainted with the owners of some of the restaurants, you could persuade them to make some "real" Chinese food for you. However, there are a couple of places that serve dim sum, nothing like you'd get in New York or Los Angeles, but better than no dim sum if you've got the craving. One is Ding How just off of Veterans in Metairie, where they bring it around on trays. The other is also on Veterans, close to Dorignac's in Metairie -- can't think of the name but there you order the dim sum off the menu. At Ding How they bring it around on trays. Nobody around here has the carts.

All in all, Vietnamese food is a better choice when you want to eat something Asian in the New Orleans area.

Try Royal China at 600 Veteran's Boulevard in Metairie.
