We're taking our first trip to New Orleans in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to put together our eating itinerary. Reading the posts here has been really helpful but I haven't seen anything yet on Olivier's. Any opinions out there about it? And howabout the Pelican Club?
I ate at Olivier's last Saturday and had an excellent meal. Everything I ordered was first rate: the stuffed mushrooms, the shrimp creole, and the wonderful bread pudding. My companion, however, was less than happy with her sampler plate (shrimp, crawfish, oysters, crabcakes, etc.).
My impression of Olivier's is that it has a very good local reputation for creole cuisine. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg to eat there, and you aren't surrounded by tourists. It's not one of "the" places to go to in New Orleans (like Mother's or Brennan's or Commander's Palace), but it's a solid choice.
I ate at Olivier's several years ago, primarily at the request of a friend who is related to the Oliviers and wanted me to deliver some family photos. I remember the experience as very pleasant. The ambiance, service and food were all quite good. One of our dinner guests was quite impressed with my choice of Olivier's since it has a good local reputation. Sorry I don't have anything more recent about Olivier's to share, but I see that no other responses have come in to your query so thought this might be of some interest.
