NOLA report

Just came back from a business trip to NOLA. I went to Tulane for a few years before transfering, and I spend about 3-4 weeks a year down there for business, so I try to stay up on the food opportunities.

Cuvee -- really really great new restaurant. The food was delightful w/ all the characteristics I love about NOLA food w/ a new twist. Great place to try, great wine list. The wait staff was very helpful -- we went from a party of 3 to a party of 7, and they set us up right away, even though the place was packed.

Mothers -- I don't think I can go to NOLA w/out eating at Mothers. My hotel (W-CBD) was across the street from Mothers, so I ate there 3 times. The oyster and shrimp po-boy was unbelievable. The oysters this year are wonderful.

Brigtsens - you can't have a bad meal here. The rabbit loin on mashed potatoes had me crying, it was soooo good!

Dunbars -- the BEST soul food in the city! Cornbread with every meal, roast pork, mac and cheese. Mmmmm...

Emeril's -- I know, predictable and gets a lot of complaints on this board. But I dine alone sometimes, I really enjoy sitting at the food bar. The remodeling has cut down on the noise, and the new room is quite nice. The calamari, the study of duck, and the banana cream pie were all really nice.

Louisiana Seafood Exchange -- This is a collective of fishermen and shrimpers who sell retail and wholesale. The also have a little lunch counter with the freshest seafood ever. The also have tremendous jambalaya and stuffed artichokes.

    Thanks for the report.
I'll be down in 2 weeks - can't wait to try the new Peristyle!
Cuvee question - Is it straight French/Continetal or is it New Orleans food with a French twist? What did you have/recommend?

W question- How were the rooms? I've been to the bar/lobby (very sleek - NY-esque).
    Thanks
PS - I too think its a crime not to eat at Mother's, but sometimes I want to commit a crime when i see those ridiculous lines!

I;m so sorry I didn't reply earlier -- my travels have been insane.

I love the rooms in the W. Big, comfy, great fluffy robes. This could be my new favorite NOLA hotel.

Cuvee is more of Euro-Creole than anything. The decor there is great. Bar looks fun too.

Hope you had a great trip!
