GOOD CAJUN RESTAURANTS IN NEW ORLEANS
I don't think they exist. The best creative New Orleans/Cajun/Creole restaurant that we have found is Jacques-Imo, but they close for awhile during the summer; you should check. Our experience has been that if you want good Cajun food you have to go out into the country. Most examples of that type of cooking in the city are mediocre to awful.
The Bon-Ton Cafe has been serving authentic Cajun cuisine straight from Bayou Lafourche since 1952. This is a non-touristy place at 401 Magazine St. in the CBD. Try the five-way crawfish plate.
One look at the old-style menu and you will know this is the real deal. Other than the prices, which are not too steep, the menu is straight out of 1965. It's country food in the city, made from recipes that precede the K-Paul's craze by decades.
