Hi,

A friend of mine is getting married near where her future in-laws live, in Waukon, IA. I think Decorah is the nearest town of any size.

I will be hosting a bachelorette party, but I live in Boston and have no idea what's in the area.

My friend is suggesting Decorah as a location. Is there a decent restaurant you recommend? Also, any quirky places to go bar hopping or have fun afterward?

Any help would be appreciated!

Decorah is a small college town; Luther College is located there. I live about 45 minutes away but drive over often for the good food--at their restaurants and food stores. A few places that might work for a bachelorette party are LaRana--a stylish bistro with wonderful cocktails, or Sabor Latino, a authentic Mexican restaurant--their margaritas are pretty darn good. Decorah has a quaint, well-kept, late 19th Century downtown. After you have some food and drinks, you can do a leisurely pub crawl without worries about personal safety as you would in a big city. Just don't wait too long to get started, things tend to close earlier out here. You could get lovely accomodations at the Winneshiek Hotel (an elegantly restored property right down town)and move the girl talk back to your room.

The Winneshiek Hotel is featuring a "Girls Getaway" on their site. Decorah is a pretty area. A few mile out of town is Mecca for gardners. Seed Savers Exchange has thousands of heirloom vegetable, flower and fruits on a 890 acre farm. Its open to the public and the visitor center is in an Amish built barn.
