Looking for suggestions in Frankenmuth, MI

  • k

Hello,

I will be in Frankenmuth this weekend and am looking for suggestions beyond chicken dinners. Been there, done that many times, and probably still will this weekend! Are the local brewpubs worthwhile? Are there any other "local" places worth checking out?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Park the car wherever you've chosen to stay in downtown Frankenmuth. Go for a late lunch at Main Street Tavern. Drink a pitcher or two of whatever Bell's brew they have on tap. And order that bars Taco Plate Appetizer. Share, or not. Main Street is a great tavern. Then save a late-ish dinner craving for the Frankenmuth Brewery. Pub foods elevated. German-themed without the cluck-cluck.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately my trip was postponed but I'll definitely check these out the next time I'm in Frankenmuth.

    2. I'll be there in 2 weeks, thanks for the tips

      1. Try the Deutschen Eck at the very northern end of the main German-decorated drag. It's absolutely authentic German food. Good Wienerschnitzel and other pork dishes; big steins of German beer.

I agree, although I think the Eck was Franken Eck. Great authentic German restaurant. Sadly, it closed last year. Also closed, apparently, are both brewpubs, including the Frankenmuth Brewery, which was great! I will be there next week and I now have to wat at the Main Street Tavern, which isn't all bad, but I will miss the brewpub.

Yeah, darn it, just discovered the closed Eck (I think you're right, it was Franken) when I was up there a couple of weeks ago. What a shame. Things are tough all over here in Michigan.

What a dismal way to start a Sunday morning, njack: Frankenmuth Brewery closed...

          2. You can't go to Frankenmuth without trying the chicken dinner at Zenders...comfort food to the max and LOTS of it!

            1. Yeah the chicken is good but sounds like she's had that and is looking for something different. I ate at a place just east of the freeway at the traffic light. I think it was called Dixie Daves it looked like a total dump on the outside. The inside was decent and the food was impressive. Chef style food and wild game it was worth the stop. Here is a link.

That is one of the strangest restaurants anywhere. Most places that serve wild game are pretty fancy. This place, at least the last time I went there (maybe seven years ago), had some finer dishes, but they also had diner-style food. I remember I had a lionburger, with fries. Where else are you going to get that?
