This was touched on a bit in the airport thread, and has been touched on in other threads, but I thought it would be good to have a discussion of its own.

The Star Tribune published a guide to Pub Crawling along the light rail ( http://www.startribune.com/126/story/42368.html ) but what about Chowhounding the light rail?

What are the places along the rail line that are worth a visit?

The City Pages Metro Living Guide (see below) has two suggestions, both at the 50th Street stop: Cap's Grill and Sea Salt. Me, although I think Cap's is OK, I wouldn't put it in a top-ten list (except for closeness). But Sea Salt is a great place to go, both for the food and for the great park location. Alas, they don't open again until April.

At the 46th Street stop, walk two blocks down to Ted Cook's, then get back on the train with your take-out only ribs, go one stop to Minnehaha Park, and enjoy your ribs on a park picnic table. (This is a warm-weather-only suggestion, of course.)

At the Lake Street stop, definitely visit Midori's and El Nuevo Rodeo, as mentioned in the airport thread.

How far away from the stop is too far? At the Franklin Ave stop, Maria's Cafe and El Gaucho are about a half-mile away (one in each direction), but are both wonderful places.

And Solara is only a few blocks from the last downtown stop. (As are many other wonderful places.)

Anne

Cap's Grill does a wonderful pork chop. For that particular dish, they do belong in the top 10 for sure.

Also at the Lake St. station is a branch of Pineda Tacos.

If you're going to do the 1/2 mile walk to Maria's Cafe, you should then walk across the street to Franklin St. Bakery and load up. The Halal grocery two blocks closer to the light rail has an excellent gyro too.

Ted Cook's 19th hole is on 38th Street -- diners might want to get off a stop that's slightly closer than 46th.

Sea Salt is seasonal (say that six times) but they might be ready to open just about the time that folks are ready to picnic.

I went to the Riverview Wine Bar last August - I loved it! They have great wine flights, like "Unoaked Whites", "Just Like Buttah", and "Big-Ass Reds". Their food menu is small, but tasty.

And the location is perfect if you want to see a movie before or after your glass of wine. The Riverview Theater is across the street (kitty-corner, actually).

City Pages did a story on them a while back.

There's also Manny's at the Lake Street stop. If you like diner food, there will eventually (oh when will it open!) be Town Talk, and there's a really old diner, simply called The Diner I believe, at 25th Street and 27th Avenue...not far from the Lake Street stop. It's not incredible but will give you a good hearty meal. They are also supposed to have Thai food at dinner time but we've yet to try it.

A bit of a hike from the Franklin stop is Moti Mahal at Franklin and 31st. We had dinner there last weekend with some friends and thought it was very good. We had Tandoori Chicken, assorted vegetarian appetizer platter, Palak Paneer, vegetable Dhansak, and Onion Kulcha. Yummy!

There have to be some good options at the Riverside stop. I've heard good things about K-Wok at Riverside & Cedar but have not been there.

There's also Joey D's on 42nd just West of the light rail, but it's about a 7 block walk from either the 48th Street station or the 38th Street Station.

That's all that come to mind from me.

There are so many along-the-light-rail options that I'm forgetting some. Blue Nile is at 2027 E. Franklin and is supposed to be good Ethiopian. There is also an Ethiopian restaurant nest to El Nuevo Rodeo that I have not yet tried, called Dashen. I cannot find any information on that one.
