I just got back from Maine, where I feasted on lobster rolls and fabulous lobster bisque. (Oh, joy!)

I've given up on finding lobster rolls in the Twin Cities, but is there anywhere with good lobster bisque? I'm too lazy to make it for myself.

Thanks,
 Anne

OK, not *exactly* lobster bisque but....

I had the lobster appetizer at Fugaise last week and it was really nice. As the menu describes:

"Lobster, potato-taleggio ravioli, lobster bisque, tarragon"

The bisque served as a sauce, not a soup. The lobster meat was very tasty, and there was tail and claw.

Great prelude to a spectacular chateaubriand by the way.

I just had the lobster bisque at Lo To last weekend - it was actually my second attempt as they were out the first time I went there - and it was very disappointing. Not very "lobstery", not very warm.

I've yet to find a better lobster bisque than that at the River Room, which is in the downtown St Paul Dayton's, er, Marshall Field's, er, whatever they are going to call it next. It is always excellent, and the service there is far above anything I've experienced at Lo To. And then, of course, there are the River Room's popovers, which are almost worth the trip alone.

I didn't realize that the River Room was still open! I used to work at the downtown St. Paul Dayton's, decades ago, and would have lunch there when I needed a special treat.

Thanks for the information - I'll check out their lobster bisque!

They are, and nothing has changed a bit! Well, I shouldn't say nothing: the last couple times I was there, they had a guest chef program which I really hope they continue.

The hours are a little limited compared to other restaurants, so you may want to call ahead:

You might want to reconsider the lobster roll. I have never had one in Main but Joey's seafood in Apple Valley has a mighty good one at the price.

If you've ever been within 500 miles of Maine (or a lobster for that matter) do NOT order the lobster roll at Joey's. After the thread here about lobster rolls in August I checked it out (the lobster roll not the place in general). Sorry I did.

I have nothing against the place -- I live relatively close and it's a good place to eat with the kids. But a source of an honest-to-goodness lobster roll it is not.

You can get a good lobster roll at Stella's Fish Cafe in Uptown. It's definitely pricier than getting one in Maine!

The Byerly's soup & sandwich counter in Edina has a good lobster bisque on occasion. I don't know if it's on a regular rotation. I had an excellent crawfish bisque at Oceanaire once ... they might do lobster, too.

I beg to differ about the lobster rolls at Stella: the one I had was terrible. All I could taste was salt and mayonaise. Stella's is noisy, corporate, obnoxious, imho.

Cafe Barbette has occasionally had lobster bisque on the menu -- perhaps it was MSPD who clued me in to that sometime last summer?

Perhaps it's worth a call to ask if they'll serve it again sometime soon.
