<content>Anyone know of any stores in the Twin Cities that sell Poulain 1848 Drinking Chocolate? It's a French product that I've seen available on several UK sites but due to FDA regulations they are unable to ship food or drink to the U.S. If anyone knows where I could buy it here in MN or online somwhere it would make my step-mom's Christmas quite special!</content>

<content>Alas, I've never seen Poulain Drinking Chocolate in the Twin Cities - or any other Poulain product. I love their chocolate bars, and wish they were available here.

However, I did find some Vosges Haut Chocolat cocoa at the Whole Foods store on Grand Ave. in St. Paul. I bought the last box of "plain" cocoa ($20), but they had white chocolate with lemon myrtle ($25), and Aztec chocolate with peppers and cinnamon ($22). (See vosgeschocolate.com for more info on the flavors.) I have already sent off the cocoa as a gift, so I can't tell you if it was worth the money. But I have seen good reviews of the stuff, so I have my fingers crossed.

Whole Foods had several gourmet cocoa choices, so you might find something else that would work.

Or, another thought, if you have deep pockets: How about cocoa from La Maison du Chocolat? They have a branch in NYC that does mail order (I can personally attest to this). Their cocoa is fabulous - very rich and dark and contains no sugar (less weight for shipping...). The web site, lamaisonduchocolat.com, doesn't mention cocoa, but I'll bet if you called the store, they would sell you some, as long as they have it on this side of the Atlantic.

Good luck finding something yummy for your step-mom!

<content>As long as we're talking fine mail order chocolate, I highly recommend Vermont Chocolates, made freshly by hand to order. They also now have hot chocolate. I regularly purchase their chocolates as gifts for my extremely picky aunt and she says their dark chocolate is the best she has ever had. I found Vermont Chocolates through the Splendid Table website, by the way.

<content>Karl Bissingers, a St. Louis chocolatier founded in France in 1668 and established in the USA in 1863, just introduced French drinking chocolate to their US clients. I'm actually eating Bissinger's chocolate as I write this.
