I'll be in downtown Detroit (Hilton on Gratiot) for a few days in December with limited transporation. From what I've read on this board, this is close to Greektown - any recs within walking distance? In addition to Greek, I'm open to anything not too expensive (I need breakfast, lunch and dinner options).

Also, half the time I'll be at the Max M. Fischer Music Center, so any recs within walking distance of here would be great too (just not too expensive). Thanks!

You have to visit Lafayette Coney Island, downtown on W. Lafayette, about a 15 minute walk, from your hotel. Do lunch or dinner there for the penultimate Detroit Hot Dog Experience. Its rival--American Coney Island is right next door.

Use the link below to speculate about affordable meals in the Eastern Market...steps from your lodging.
Russell Street Deli is a good lunch option; Sala Thai is wonderful any meal.

Can't help with spots by the Max. Hope you get help there.

Let's see, there are some good spots on or near Woodward Ave that are a quick taxi away. I would suggest Agave, Union Street, and the Traffic Jam & Snug. All should be good for lunch or dinner.

For a cold one at night, I would hit the Town Pump. They also have really good lunch sandwiches for lunch. It's behind hockeytown (I would not go there unless you are a hockey nut...the food stinks IMO).

Oh yes, you're not too far from Small Plates or Vicente's (Cuban) and both are good.

Lastly, I have not been yet, but I am told that Slow's BBQ (it may be spelled "Sloe") is really good. I believe it's near Old Tigers Stadium.

Nothing is far in Detroit, but I am not sure I would walk too far if you are unfamiliar...

My knowledge of Detroit is somewhat limited, but:

If you're that close to Greektown, a night at Pegasus
(the go-to Greek restaurant in the area) and the casino
could be fun.

Also, if you're looking for something truly excellent and not too expensive for lunch, try Pizza Papalis:
http://www.pizzapapalis.com/locations.asp

In nearby Hamtramck:
Polish Village Cafe
2990 Yemans St
Hamtramck, MI 48212-3264

And for more entertainment, Belgian beer and
feather bowling (bring some friends) at the Cadieux Cafe:
http://www.cadieuxcafe.com/

Enjoy your time in the city!
