Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the Midwest

Any good chow in South Bend, Indiana?

As a former Chicagoan, I am having trouble finding good chow in South Bend. It seems like every place is a chain here. I especially like ethnic food.

I have found two decent Thai places and 1 middle eastern place, Elias on Dixie Hwy., but not much else.

Any ideas?

  1. We were recently in South Bend and ate at the LaSalle Grill. I believe it was very expensive by Indiana standards, but really, really good. Excellent service.
The Fiddler's Hearth was also excellent food, although the service was not as friendly. Also, we had lunch on the Notre Dame campus at the Morris Inn (I believe?). The food was excellent, but I don't think they served alcohol?

politos has some tasty pizza and dollar mgd's. It would be my third home if I lived in the area.

    2. Try Papa Joe's in Mishawaka...Italian ..great atmosphere...good food....prices $$. You won't be disappointed.
